Weekly Coffee Date
Hi friends! This weekend Daniel and I did our first real homeowner shift of yard work. My stepdad PJ (of meatball fame :) was kind enough to come over with his yard tools and show us the ropes (aka do all the work while we ferried the yard waste to the compost pile). It was a tough day but it felt really good to work out in the yard. Pulling weeds is a lot more satisfying exercise than the gym for me, that’s for sure. Hopefully we’ll be able to keep up with it. Tomorrow we’re heading to my niece’s third birthday which should be adorable and fun, and then in three weeks, it’s the wedding!
Here are some links I came across this week that might be interesting:
It has been really tough seeing the devastation from the hurricane down in Texas. The one positive thing from such a terrible tragedy has been seeing how a community really comes together to help. Here is a heartwarming story of an employee of the Harris County precinct 2 constable’s office who rescued a baby and was able to reunite the child with her mother.
A new large scale study has bolstered the argument for the low-carb crowd. “The new research suggests that it’s not the fat in your diet that’s raising your risk of premature death, it’s too many carbohydrates—especially the refined, processed kinds of carbs—that may be the real killer.”
Here’s an interesting article from the publishing world about a scandal involving a new young adult novel that debuted at the top of the New York Times Bestseller List but was later removed after allegations of sales manipulations. It is a pretty interesting look at how those kinds of lists work.
If bubbles are clinging to the side of your beer glass, it’s a sign that the glass isn’t clean. Here’s a guide on what to look for with glass wear.
I usually take a multi vitamin even though I’m unsure if it does anything. Here’s an interesting Q & A with a woman who wrote a book about vitamins.
